Senzoku Nagare(洗足流れ)May 01, 2025

May brings calm and pleasant weather — perfect for exploring hidden waterways. It’s one of my favorite times of the year.
I took a walk around the Senzoku Nagare — a once-lost stream that has been partially restored — and Senzoku Pond, one of its sources.

Where I Walked

I explored two nagare (流れ) this time.

While looking at a map, I discovered that some nearby hidden waterways have the word nagare in their names.
In English, nagare would probably be translated as “flow” or “stream”.

Maybe this is where the Senzoku Nagare joins the Nomi River?
But according to the map, it seems the actual confluence point is a bit upstream — near the next Honmura bridge.

There’s no visible trace of the river around here.
According to the map, it seems to pass underneath the railway tracks.

Just found a narrow path that might be a lost river's trace — moments like this make urban exploring so exciting!

Are those cherries?🍒

The Senzoku Nagare continues along the narrow path to the left.
The Kōnosu Nagare used to run beside the busier road, where cars now pass.
According to the map, the two streams never actually merged, but flowed quietly side by side.
I decided to continue following the Senzoku Nagare for now, and come back here later to trace the Kōnosu Stream.
After following the covered section for a while, the river emerged as an open stream, quietly flowing through the residential neighborhood.

In this area, aquatic plants grew thickly, and I saw many small fish swimming around. The koi and turtles were probably released by someone.

The path is lined with rows of cherry blossoms and azaleas.

Ikeshita Bridge(池下橋) probably means 'the bridge below the pond,' since it's located downstream of Senzoku Pond.

Just ahead, after passing under the Ikegami Line, Senzoku Pond is right nearby.

After walking along a narrow path, the sudden openness of the view in front of me feels incredibly refreshing!

The area around the pond was filled with blooming azaleas and other flowers, making for a really pleasant walk.
It looks like the buried waterway continues upstream from Senzoku Pond, but I’ll leave that for another time.
Now, I’m heading back to follow the Kōnosu Nagare.
